I grew up in a Tastykake family. My grandfather worked for the Container Corporation of America, which produced the cardboard packaging for the Tasty Baking Company. As a result, our visits to Nana and Pop’s house in Philadelphia and, later, Florida, always meant an endless supply of Tasty’s sweet snacks (especially Pop’s favorites: Krimpets and Kandy Kakes).
So it was with great nostalgia that I opened my first box of Tastykake’s new Alex’s Lemon Krimpets, little lemon-filled sponge cakes that are every bit as good as the originals. Or maybe better: turns out, Tasty is donating 50 cents from every sold box to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an organization that works to fight childhood cancer.
Pop would no doubt approve.
Available for $3.79 for 12 Krimpets at area grocery stores.
