Those silly oenophiles. They believe that the only appropriate drink to pair with fine food is fine wine. But anyone even remotely familiar with beer knows they are very wrong. On September 25, Cambridge Common (1667 Mass Ave, Cambridge) offers the next in their excellent line of beer/food pairings with an Otter Creek Brewer’s Dinner. After working up an appetite with an Otter Creek Vermont Lager, start off with red-and-green-leaf lettuce salad with house dressing, tomatoes, olive tapenade, and grilled shrimp, alongside an Otter Creek Pale Ale. Next up is a black-bean-and-chipotle soup topped with jalapeño sour cream, paired with Wolaver’s Organic IPA. For an entrée, choose either risotto with tomato, corn, and basil, paired with Otter Creek Copper Ale, or brown-ale-braised brisket washed down with a Wolaver’s Organic Brown. Dessert? Apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon whipped cream, paired with Wolaver’s Organic Oatmeal Stout. Tickets are $35; call 617.547.1228 for reservations.
