BY CLIF GARBODEN

THURSDAY 19

12:30 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. USA men’s beach volleyball (live), swimming, rowing, and canoeing. (Until 4 p.m.)

8:00 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Women’s individual all-around gymnastics final, more swimming finals, and USA women’s beach volleyball. (Until midnight.)

8:00 (64) Football. The New York Giants versus the Carolina Panthers in pre-season play.

9:00 (6) Road Trip (movie). Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, and Amy Smart star in this 2000 celebration of stupid youth in which four friends head out cross-country on an unlikely mission. (Until 11 p.m.)

12:35 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. USA versus Russia in men’s volleyball (a miracle on hardwood?), plus weightlifting. (Until 2 a.m.)

2:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. A replay of prime-time events. (Until 5 a.m.)

FRIDAY 20

12:30 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. More swimming, the men’s 10,000-meter final, and beach-volleyball elimination-round play. (Until 4 p.m.)

8:00 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Swimming finals for the men’s 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly and the women’s 200-meter backstroke and 800-meter freestyle. And hey, it’s day one of the heptathlon, and we get women’s trampoline, a USA women’s beach-volleyball elimination-round match, and, of course, more swimming. (Until midnight.)

12:35 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. The USA versus Russia in women’s volleyball, plus whitewater canoeing finals. (Until 2 a.m.)

2:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. A replay of prime-time events. (Until 6 a.m.)

3:30 a.m. (2) Fiesta in the Sky. No doubt by popular demand, the relentlessly repeated documentary on hot-air ballooning returns to WGBH for another pre-dawn appearance. Tabitha skinned her knee (rather badly) when she fell, but so awestruck was she by the sight of a purple hot-air balloon in her driveway that she barely felt a thing. "Daddy, Daddy, look!" she cried. "Mom’s home!" (Until 4 a.m.)

SATURDAY 21

11:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Men on trampolines! Plus USA versus Lithuania in men’s basketball, track-cycling finals, USA men’s beach-volleyball elimination-round matches, the USA versus Russia in water polo, and women’s weightlifting. (Until 6 p.m.)

1:00 (64) Baseball. The Sox versus the Chicago White Sox.

7:30 (5) Football. The Pats versus the Cincinnati Bengals in pre-season play.

8:00 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Track-and-field finals, the men’s 1500-meter freestyle and 4x100-meter medley relay swimming finals, the women’s platform-diving semifinal, and a USA women’s beach-volleyball elimination-round match. (Until midnight.)

Midnight (2) Last Holiday (movie). As if to make up for all the fundraising schlock it’s been force-feeding viewers, ’GBH is filling the unprofitable hours with what it’s listing as "Public Domain Film" — which means it’s not paying big royalties for this stuff. Anyway, some of it’s worth seeing. Like this one from 1950 with Alec Guinness as a modest store clerk who believes he’s about to die and sets off for one last good time. (Until 1:29 a.m.)

12:30 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. The USA versus Australia in men’s volleyball, plus the women’s discus final. (Until 2 a.m.)

1:29 a.m. (2) My Man Godfrey (movie). Carole Lombard and William Powell star in a 1936 comedy about a ditzy socialite who hires a bum for her butler — only to discover, etc. etc. etc. (Until 3:03 a.m.)

2:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. A replay of prime-time events. (Until 6 a.m.)

SUNDAY 22

10:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. The women’s marathon (live!), plus the USA versus Cuba in women’s volleyball, rowing finals, and women’s beach-volleyball quarterfinal action. (Until 6 p.m.)

4:00 (44) American Soundtrack: Straight from the Heart — Timeless Music of the ’60s and ’70s. Repeated from last week. From Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center, this show offers us the reunion of Tony Orlando & Dawn (wow), plus the Fifth Dimension, B.J. Thomas, Dionne Warwick, and Debby Boone. (Until 6 p.m.)

5:00 (2) André Rieu: Live in Tuscany. There’s a lot of junk like this on this week. You shouldn’t watch it because it’s awful, so we’re going to stop drawing attention to all but the marginally redemptive fundraising shows. (Until 7 p.m.)

7:00 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Individual gymnastics finals plus the men’s 100-meter, high-jump, and triple-jump finals. And the women’s platform-diving final, and women’s beach-volleyball quarterfinals. (Until midnight.)

9:00 (12) Pay It Forward (movie). Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt star in this odd 2000 drama about a troubled boy who sets out to change the world by inventing a kind of good-deeds pyramid scheme. (Until 11:30 p.m.)

Midnight (2) M (movie). Fritz Lang’s 1931 creep show with Peter Lorre as a child killer evading police in Berlin and being hunted down by other criminals. (Until 1:45 a.m.)

12:35 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. The men’s hammer-throw final and women’s 400-meter hurdles. Plus women’s water polo, underwater bocce, and cycling. (Until 2 a.m.)

1:00 a.m. (44) Mystery: Inspector Morse: Masonic Mysteries. Inspector Morse is discovered hovering over a woman’s body and holding a knife. Naturally, he’s suspected of murder. And, yes indeed, he’s being framed. Presumably by the Masons. To be repeated tonight at 4 a.m. on Channels 2 and 44. (Until 3 a.m.)

1:45 a.m. (2) Lady of Burlesque (movie). Gypsy Rose Lee wrote the novel on which this 1943 mystery set in a burlesque house is based. Barbara Stanwyck stars. (Until 3:30 a.m.)

3:30 a.m. (2) Fiesta in the Sky. Only a few days remained before Becca, the winsome blonde, moved away to college. "Will I ever see you again?" asked the slightly nerdish Rodney, who had been Becca’s neighbor and admirer since the third grade? "Certainly," answered Becca. "You don’t think college is going to stop me from going to the weekend hot-air-balloon rallies, do you?" (Until 4 a.m.)

2:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. A replay of prime-time events. (Until 6 a.m.)

MONDAY 23

12:30 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Men’s springboard diving, a beach-volleyball semifinal (live! but we don’t know if it’s men’s or women’s), and the USA versus Serbia and Montenegro in men’s water polo. (Until 4 p.m.)

7:30 (2) An Evening with Nat King Cole. A 1960 concert filmed by the BBC, with Nat doing all his hits at the annual Royal Variety Show for Queen Elizabeth. (Until 9 p.m.)

8:00 (44) Globe Trekker: Globe Shopper, Best Beaches, and Great Festivals. Three GT anthology shows about, respectively, well . . . you can figure it out. (Until 11 p.m.)

12:35 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. The USA versus Brazil in men’s volleyball, and the women’s triple jump. (Until 2 a.m.)

2:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. A replay of prime-time events. (Until 6 a.m.)

2:40 (2) Steamboat Bill Jr. (movie). A wonderful (in an exaggerated sort of way) 1928 Buster Keaton silent with Keaton playing the embarrassingly citified son of a salty riverboat captain. Nothing unexpected as to plot, but some great stunts and comic turns. (Until 4 a.m.)

TUESDAY 24

12:30 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. The men’s springboard-diving semifinal, the women’s beach-volleyball bronze-medal game (live!), and women’s water polo. (Until 4 p.m.)

Also: the men’s springboard-diving final, the "Championship Gala" gymnastics thing, and super-heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestling. (Until midnight.)

9:00 (44) P.O.V.: Every Mother’s Son. Repeated from last week. A documentary about the mothers of three high-profile murdered victims of New York police brutality — Amadou Diallo, Anthony Baez, and Gary Busch — and their efforts to find justice for their sons. (Until 10 p.m.)

9:30 (2) The Legacy of Jim Croce. Repeated from last week. A tribute to the "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" composer, who died in a plane crash when he was only 30. Featuring rare old ’70s TV clips of Jim doing his most enduring pop hits. (Until 11 p.m.)

12:35 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Women’s volleyball quarterfinals, the 3000-meter-steeplechase final, and more wrestling (Greco-Roman, as opposed to WWF) and weightlifting. (Until 2 a.m.)

1:00 a.m. (2) The Bicycle Thief (movie). Vittorio De Sica’s 1948 Ladri di biciclette tells a poignant tale of economic hardship in post-war Italy as a man (Lamberto Maggiorani) and his son scour war-disrupted Rome for his stolen bicycle. (Until 2:30 a.m.)

2:00 a.m. (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. A replay of prime-time events. (Until 6 a.m.)

8:00 (10) The 2004 Summer Olympics. Men’s finals in the long jump, the 400-meter hurdles, and the 200 meters. Plus women’s springboard diving, the men’s triathlon, and women’s volleyball semifinals. (Until midnight.)
