Three albums into their career, SoCal modern-rockers Zebrahead are big in Japan but still looking for a break in their home country. They might find one yet with the Disney-punk stomper "Into You," the first single from their new disc. "All I want is a chance to fall into you," coos singer Justin Mauriello over fluorescent guitars that are sure to catch the ears of Simple Plan fans everywhere. Not that these guys are total softies: singer Ali Tabatabaee starts the song with a rapcore outburst that would make Linkin Park blush, and they also sneak some heavy-metal drum trickery into the chorus. This is the band’s first album without star producer Howard Benson (P.O.D.), but they make up for it by enlisting the rock-gone-Top-40 talents of Kid Rock producer John Travis and Lit songwriter Jeremy Popoff. The opening "Rescue Me" cruises along on Popoff’s sunny melodies; Travis gets out of the way and lets Tabatabaee bulldoze his way through "Type A." On the hard-luck fairy tale "Runaway," the group wipe their tears away with a zany funk-metal interlude. Zebrahead are as juvenile (and proud of it) as Limp Bizkit and Blink-182 — and most of the time, they’re just as much fun. (Zebrahead perform this Sunday, November 30, at Axis; call 617-262-2437.)
