Not quite a diner in the traditional sense of crowded counters and greasy meatloaf, Downcity offers updated, upscaled versions of hearty diner fare complemented by a full bar. The fixed-price dinner special Ñ appetizer, salad and main course Ñ is a bargain at $12. Try the unusual appetizer options, such as spicy mushroom strudel and BBQ pork and rice timbale. Entrees range from a simple rigatoni with white beans, spinach and plum tomatoes, to a more extravagant grilled duck breast over mesclun with caramelized onions and peaches. Downcity is sure to tempt you with their homemade desserts ($3.75) like bread pudding and lemon tart.
