You’re Irish, right? Are you thinking about potatoes right now?
No, I’m thinking of ways to deal with the rage that’s brought on when I come across appalling racial stereotyping by people trying to be funny. Only joking. I’m thinking about potatoes. Maris Pipers to be precise.
What’s the best thing about Americans? The worst?
They’re very friendly. The British comedian Jeff Green summed up his fondness for Americans over English with the remark, “I’d rather be told to have a nice day by somebody who doesn’t mean it than be told to piss off by somebody who does mean it.” You generally have very nice teeth, too. The worst? You don’t respond well to being mocked by foreigners. I’ll have to be careful about that.
One word: “Bono.” Go.
I much prefer it when he acts like a rock star than a messiah. In Ireland, our view of U2 has become tarnished by the fact that they just moved their copyright holding company to the Netherlands for tax reasons while dictating to the government about foreign aid. Dictate to the Dutch government. That’s where your money is.
I heard that Irishmen aren’t circumcised. Can I see it?
Well, I’m in England and you’re in America, so just how gifted do you think I am?
